FWIW

I dropped my tank last night and popped it open. I have the normal stuff, so I can't be a partner in crime on this one. Did you find anything online regarding that part number?

Well just before I head out to work, I think I have came to the conclusion for some reason ford factory installed a gas sending unit into my truck, I don't know if that matters or not but if you go to this link:

PFS280: Fuel Pump and Sender Assembly. (Fuel Pump And Sender Asy. - Tank Unit - Gas) With single 4 pin electrical connector. ``BEFORE 2/1/2004''; 70 micron pump element. Air and Fuel Delivery, Fuel Pumps and Related Components (fuel pump and sender a

It says a 4 pin connector on it for gas. This is the only one that makes sense to me. And this is the PFS280 part number. However the "related" part numbers don't match and either do the years.

OEM fuel pickup 2000 Excursion Diesel

Have a look at
fordparts.com
put in ya details and search.. there is a listing for Excursion (California Emissions).
I would tend agree that you have a GAS sender unit. Part # 9H307 There is two images for Gas. One with a single 4 pin pigtail and One with 3 and 7 pin pigtail

I missed this... we posted at the same time. I'll do better than that, check your PM.

Agreed.

Could a previous owner have changed the whole fuel tank, to include the pick-up assembly?

I'm still confused. The Ford dealership by me says the part number is YC3Z9275AA both gas and diesel. The same goes for 2002. And this site fordparts.com is saying California Emissions and I thought that there was no such thing as California Emissions on Excursions? I'm really confused now! lol All I do know is that the date stamp on the unit that sits in the fuel is 3/2000 and the stamp on top of the unit is 3/2000 and lastly the date stamp on the door with the VIN number on it say 3/2000 I would have to say nothing was ever changed and everything is stock. I hope this thread helps someone else out one day when they have an issue with their truck.

I didn't say all Excursions. I said ALL 7.3L powered Excursions are exactly the same. I cannot speak for the gas powered rigs, or the 6.0L PSD's.

Unlike the F250/F350's, there were no special 7.3L powered California emission Excursions made that are different than other 7.3L powered Excursions.

Hey Tugly, I am looking for a wiring diagram for a gas super duty. I don't think your link has it. Any ideas? I am having an issue trying to get power to this sending unit in my tank. Power goes to the lift pump but no power to the tank. I checked all the fuses and relays.

Edit* It does have the gas version but in 2002... 2000 would be nice. Any ideas?

Well the truck is all fixed and running beautiful and fuel pressure is no longer an issue. Ended up buying this:

NEW BOSCH 67136 FUEL PUMP MODULE FOR FORD VEHICLES 2000-2005 | eBay

The only problem was after hours of reading wiring diagrams and searching for the cause of no power going to the above pump I ended up cutting the wire in the loom along the frame rail, putting an eye lit on it and mounting it to the pole on the lift pump on the frame rail. If anyone every encounters the same problem as I did I hope this thread helps!

So when all is said and done, I have a pump pushing the fuel out of the tank to the lift pump on the frame rail, from the lift pump to the fuel bowl. I took if for a 10 minute test drive and everything is running great. I'm just curious if the fuel pump circuit will overload and blow a fuse. Only time will tell.

Well... It took a while, but I found what you needed. On the gas 2000 SD, there is a YEllow wire with a WHite stripe from the fuel sender on the tank that goes directly to one of the connectors on the instrument cluster (dash). The diagram says pin 10 of connector B, but you will see the colored wire. If you have an overhead, the YE/WH wire will go there as well - to pin 3. A BLack wire with an OranGe stripe will be the ground for the fuel sender circuit.

If you have an overhead, this can help - if the overhead show miles left to empty(good number), and the cluster does not show fuel - it's the cluster somewhere.
