I took my 94 F250 7.3 IDI turbo in to check the timing today. Tech said that it is not advanced enough and it is already maxed out. he said the advance piston is stuck.
So I guess its time to change the IP and injectors.
Where is the best place to get the pump and injectors?
maxed out uh.its "time" to rent the meter yourself.
hit up a member called "icanfixall" on oilburners.net.
send him a pm,asking about timing meter rental.
he'll fix ya right up.
if your timing advance solenoid is stuck on,with proper timing, she'd sound a bit excessive on the clatter/rattle and be driving ya buggy driving the truck.
if you feel the truck still has decent performance, and is getting good economy, you could just replace that.not sure how hard it is to do though. 6.2L 6.5L 6.9L 7.3L Cold Advance HPCA Solenoid | eBay
Fuel economy is erratic. One time I get 22. The next I get 15 (gets between 15 and 17 most of the time). the last fill which was combined city highway was 12.5.
It has 182,000 on it and I believe the original owner changed the injectors but the pump looks original. I am thinking that it might be just as well to change both now so i know what i have instead of guessing.
thats the best way for sure.
never hear anything bad abut midwest fuel injection,or i guess they appear to be going by "the diesel store" now. http://www.mwfi.com/
I decided to spray som lube on the advance piston and it moves fine today.
But, with the engine running, I pressed the piston in all the way and there was no change in the engine sound or RPM. I also checked to see what the position of the pump was and the mechanic who first checked it out was right, it is rotated as far advancedc as it can and he said it was at about 2.5 BTDC.
With all this said, I guess this is further confirmation that my IP is bad. ??
If it were off a tooth, would it run prettty decent; Idle is smooth, accelerates fairely well, not much smoke except when I pour the coals to it, but even then it isn't bad)?
She has 181,000 on her. PO has changed the injectors because they say reman on them but can't tell if the pump is original or if it has been changed.
Is it possible it is the original pump and it has worn out so the timing can't be set past 2.5 degrees btdc?
Another question, I asume thatpushing the advance piston in should cause some change in the engine. Is this correct?
Not sure about that, you'd think it would.
If the advance was stick id think youd have to retard the base timing to get in spec. Are you sure it's maxed advanced and not retarded? I'm just theorizing here... I don't really know for sure.
