jbg sells replacement stock ones, they aren't cheap if you need to replace very many of them, though... and its just such a simple thing, idk. I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel, but I think a nut, washer, and a short pipe/spacer will be more reliable in the long term, and easier to remove if I ever need to again.
JBG? i need to get replacements for mine. having a heck of a time locating some in my catalogs.
Yeah. i just checked and I have some pipe in my scrap bin that fits perfectly. Looking at it, I don't "NEED" to weld it because it would be sandwiched between the washers, but I'm probably gonna go ahead and weld it to the top washer. Just because.
I removed a set of OEM factory radiator core support bushings last week, took about three hours. First thing I did has already been mentioned spray the crap out of the pocket where the bolt head is located, if the truck is really rusty find a better truck. Cover all parts with spray rust blaster and let is sit 20 mins. while applying more spray. The bottom nut take a 7/8 wrench and the top bolt head is a 9/16. I used my rachet with an extension on the top and let the rachet hit the suppport and I torked on the bottom with my breaker bar and got them lose. You can remove the bolt with a small tap, the only part that comes off at this stage is the 9/16 head bolt, remove the small thick washer and the two thin much larger spacer/washer from the core pocket.
The top and lower rubber bushing will not come off yet, they are sleeved together, the bottom one slide over the top bushing. Next, and this takes the time, I removed both front fenders bolts from the core support after the wheel well liners were removed to access the bolts. There are several bolts on both sides, then remove the front grill and headlight trim pieces, then the front bumper. You will have some wires to pull from the headlights and the core support should lift off the frame. It really was not to bad, just take your time.
Here is the key to removing the bushings. Insert the 9/16 bolt back into the hole and tighten several turns then spray rust blast on the threads and fill the hole that this bolt is threaded to and let sit a while and repeat, then I took a rear axle with splined end that was laying around and used it as a hammer and punched/hit the top of the 9/16 bolt head pretty hard several times and they popped apart ( the sleeves came apart).
Cost me $5 went home a soaked parts in vaporust for two days cleaned and painted and installed, of course I also pick a truck that had good rubber bushings. Don't forget all the spacers.
