Radiator Support Removal

Does anyone have detailed instructions on removing the radiator support? My Hayne's manual doesn't have anything. Thanks

I recently pulled mine out. Pretty simple.

Pull the grill, headlights, and fenders. Unbolt the inner fenders from the support and/or remove them completely. I did just make more room. Remove the upper and lower radiator hoses and overflow. Take a look around and make sure everything is clear from the support. Once its free standing, you can remove the radiator or keep it on. Your choice, just gonna be heavy. The two large support bolts are usually baked on with 35+ years of rust and grit. They can be a bear to remove. Once they come off, the core support can be lifted off. Its about a 2 hour job if you take your time and stay organized. Keep track of all the bolts and nuts you remove because they have to go back in at some point!! Good luck!

Fenders don't have to be pulled. It's easier to get the core out with them gone, but not critical it you want to save body panel alignment.

I already had the engine and radiator out, so weight wasn't a problem. I got all the bolts out, then just took the top fender bolts out so i could move them slightly to get them out of the way. left the a/c condenser attached to the lines, so I couldn't take it anywhere.

Well if you broke the head off, you could try using a pair of vise grips to twist the other end

if enough of the broken bolt is sticking out try welding a nut to it and that should give you somthing to grab on and try and get it out.

What doesn't fit? Is it an alignment problem or you can't physically get it to fit in the frame and bolt up?

I can't get it to align to the fenders or the inner fender part. I need to remove the metal washers from the frame, where the main bolts go, only then does it start to align, but I'm concerned as those washers are there for a reason?

Were frame saver washers welded on ?

Also without new hardware it's going to be hard to get any lateral adjustment ..

The rubber should be able to move to get your alignment however after the rubber has been there many years it glues itself to the frame ..
