So all weekend I've racked my brain trying to find the procedure for setting the idle set screw on an 86 5.0 EFI. I tried every search possible on this forum and google, went to auto parts store and looked through manuals and found nothing. I need help in setting this screw so that I can replace the TPS. The screw was backed all the way out.
One is not supposed to mess with that screw, probably why it's so hard to find documentation on it.
I would return it to its factory setting.
If this can't be done, then with the IAC disconnected, I would adjust it so the engine just barely runs and is about to die. No idea if that's right or not but it's what I would do.

That's about right. You can tweak it after that, but basically you have a little bit of air going by the main butterfly all the time(this is what the screw is setting) and the rest of the idle air comes from the idle air control motor and it's passageway. If you can't get it to die by backing the screw all the way out(like it is now) you have a vacuum leak somewhere and air is coming in somewhere else.
