Brought 2005 Exursion 6.0 diesel to dealership for hesitation problem.Dealer says need to replace EGR also said time to replace fuel filter also need to replace front axle seals. I agreed to do repairs and added an oil change. Aprox. $2,000 later I still have problem. Brought truck back because still hesitates and wont restart when hot. Dealer says we think its the fuel pump and a connector that had rust on it.This will cost aprox. $1,000. After argument dealer will do it for parts cost aprox.$600. I asked what if this doesnt solve the problem the reply was were going to make sure this is the problem its costing us labor. I called to see if my truck was ready that afternoon the reply was we have another problem there is soot built up around the turbo everytime we clean it it builds up again. We need to change the manifold & turbo its gonna cost about $2,000. Do we know whats going on or am I being raped and paying for someones diesel education. I cant afford for these guys peicing out my truck. Truck has only 60,000 miles. Please help thank you.
Thanks Blade35 I appreciate any info. I dont know much on newer vehicles but I do know I love the truck and kicks *** when running right. Next time ill bring the ky or maybe they can just use spit. thank you
$600 was fair on the HFCM. Tousley says list $627 and they sell for $517. Benny's right. Replacing the manifold is far out there (unless they already broke somthing). Could they do a turbo and a intake manifold for $2k?
Don't take this the wrong way, but whenever a dealership recommends fuel filter changes and oil (and filter) changes, it makes me wonder what is the owner's maintenance frequency/practices on their truck?? Why would the dealership have to do filters?? .... and did you take it to them with it being past the recommended service inervals? What oil do you use and what are your change intervals on oil and fuel filters?
I hate to say it, but after the turbo it sounds like they will be recommending injectors next. I will say that a turbo sticking is originally due to something else. Your turbo could have abnormal wear, etc., but if it is "sooting up" quickly, then you have a combustion issue.
I agree that the HPO is the first place to look for a "no-start hot" issue (HPO issue), but then you will need to be thinking about the sooting (combustion) issue ..... if you are getting the straight scoop from them.
Mark Many dealers force the filter sales as a way to induce income. no different then walmart in this case.
It kills me to ask this but you did take to a ford dealer and not someplace else right?
If thats the case IMO find a new place.

If it is a Ford dealer I'd find another one anyway. I've never, knock on wood, had my dealer just begin throwing parts at my truck and then try to charge me.
I do change filters, oil, etc. as per manufacturers specs. The fuel and water seperator filters were do to be changed. If I had time I would do these things myself.
yup it is. more so is the customer that says " I didnt know I had to change those" wich we get a lot of too.
I would kind expect that of Ford to be hocking those things, but that above just goes to show you the idiots that are out on the road.
To the OP: find another place. It isn't easy though finding a place to take care of the 6.0, sometimes I think it is better just do it yourself on some of this stuff.
To Mark: This is part of what I was getting at on the other thread about tainted source. Even despite all the wealth of knowledge on the subject, you still have shops doing this and that just adds to the supposed "well deserved" 6.0 reputation.
Tex i have come to belive that the auto industry is much like the goverment. It really needs an overhaul.
the guys comming in to the industry are sad for the most part. were lucky to find 1 in 200 with talent and want.
stuff has not gotten easer to work on either. its gonna be a down hill run for owners soon enugh.
