Adding distilled water?

My coolant is about 2 quarts low. Would it be OK to just add distilled water for now? In a couple of months I am goin to flush the coolant & put in Cat elc? Thanks

Yes, if you just want to avoid buying some coolant for a while. But I would be more concerned about where that coolant went. No sense spending money flushing and buying ELC, only to find you've got a bad head gasket or EGR cooler.

Yes but I would figure out why the coolant is that low. Have you drained some lately or suspect a leak?

I dont see any leaks anywhere. Its not blowing any white or black smoke. There isnt any residue in the degas bottle either. Thanks for answering so quickly

No problem. I see you are a somewhat new user, so I will add that the original level molded in the side of the degas bottle is not correct. Too high. And that difference is about 1/2 gal. So don't put too much in, or it might just blow back out. Sorry if I am being Mr Obvious here.

Once you set the level, watch it for a couple of months to make sure it is holding it. Consistently check it when cold before starting the truck.

Yes, thank you. The old COLD line is now the new HOT line. Or there abouts. I haven't found it to be particularly critical.

For grins, park the truck slightly nose down overnight. Then pull the EGR valve and look into the intake manifold. If there's coolant in there, the EGR cooler is leaking.

I was allready thinking about pulling my EGR valve. While i have it out I will be cleaning it. I checked my coolant this morning & it looks like it's just about at the minimun line. It's probably OK though. I may have been parked on a slight angle. Thanks everyone

Personally I wouldn't run it long with a weak coolant concentration - you are inviting cavitation damage.

That coolant level is definitely important. Before I got educated here, I was overfilling it and it would always blow out on me, lol.
