leaking / burning coolant

Last week I noticed I was having to refill coolant in my excursion more than I should. I hae a mechanic friend now trying to diagnose the problem. he said he doesnt think its the water pump and theres no white smoke.

Are there common leaking places for the coolant on 6.0s he should be looking for?

Do you have anything to read temps with .i.e scangauge etc.? First place I would look is at the Degass cap, it may be leaking.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to look from the engine bay and crawl underneath the truck with a flashlight to possibly identify a small coolant leak.

Testing the coolant pressure would help to either identify or rule out head gasket issues.

Pulling the EGR valve, especially when the truck is parked downhill, would help identify or rule out a bad EGR cooler. If it's wet, there's your answer.

Before diving into all that, you could simply replace your coolant cap. Coolant caps often fail and relase pressure before the designed 16psi, which will slowly consume your coolant. It's the first step in diagnosing slow coolant loss and/or slight puking from the degas bottle.
