3.31 gears are not an option on 20" wheels, all you can get from the factory is 3.55's with 20" wheels.
Did the dealer swap the wheels with an 18" that came with it by any chance before you took delivery?
Also note that the calculation for speed/rpm is different between the 20" wheels and 18" wheels - the overall tire diameter changes between them = different revs/mile.
For reference my truck on a good day used to get 18-19mpg all highway. Now with a cap on there (leer 180) I am about 16. My overall average since I got the truck (coming up on 26,000 miles) is 17mpg. This is a long bed truck, 20" wheels, and 3.55 gears.
There are a ton of variances that can affect fuel mileage. However, yours does still seem low. That should be an easily attainable fuel mileage pulling a big trailer, not rolling empty.
yea i took it to the dealer other day an he done the recall ,an said also it was stuck in the regen cycle but it has not gt any better.
How do you know it's not still stuck in regen mode?
Why was it stuck in regen mode? It may have gone back into regen mode for the same reason it was stuck in the first place. (This is the senerio I bet has happened).
Having driven the truck for X amount of miles while the truck was stuck in regen mode may have damaged something?
I think your poor fuel economy is an idicator something isn't right with your truck, therefore it needs to go back to a compentent Ford shop as it sounds your current shop didn't fix the root cause for it to be stuck in regen mode.
the truck did have wheels changed wen i 1st bought ,i forgot.i drove it this morning around here on country roads an it did come up to 14 real quick but stayed there all day.sometimes my fuel filter on topwill start making a loud noise humming sound will do it about a hour driving time an will finaly quit, u can hear it runing 60mph (outlet side of filter)
This is why I would go crazy being a service advisor. Info just keeps coming, facts change, little bits here and there. Sorry if I offend OP, but there's got to be more info here.
Sounds like the fuel filter is not installed correctly or it's not a Motorcraft filter. Is there too much oil in the engine? You run bio fuel? Checked your brake calipers? Tires? Tires wearing true? E-brake releasing fully? Drive with windows down all the time?
You're correct, not enough answers here to specific questions.
If it's his fuel system he's hearing at highway speed, my arm chair diag is something fuel system related because no way this fuel system is that loud under normal conditions.
In the "for what it's worth" pile, my MPG was stuck between 12-14 for the first year. I also had an annoying off/on squeak from the front wheels. Long story short, my 5th visit to the dealership revealed that my front calipers were hanging and they replaced most of my front braking system....my MPG went up to 18-19 overnight. I just took a 1500 mile trip which included several hundred miles of the Blue Ridge Pkwy and averaged 19.8.
Clesky,Did yours squeak all the time or just on bumpy roads? Thx
My truck does about 17mpg on the interstate at about 60-70. Interestingly, it does 21-22 on state 2 lane highways with hills, turns and occasional stop signs at about 50. It doesn't seem to do that good on the interstate in the short times I have tried 50mph. New England can be quite congested and 50 doesn't **** too many people off. Then there are the people I run up behind doing 35-40. You cant use cruise control and get these numbers and this cruise will downshift. Oh yeah, don't when you use cruise........It can be bad luck......
