2006 3 valve passenger side leak is getting worse. Should I just fix the stock exhaust manifold, or get JBA shorty headers and just do it?
Get some headers, if you have the money. If money is in issue and the manifold isnt rusted just replace with a good set of bolts. Are the manifold warped at all.
I'm not sure if it is warped, the truck has just over 50,000 on it. It clicks pretty good when it is cold, then slowly goes away. Cost isn't really an issue, but I want something hassle free. The truck is my DD and I need it to be a "worry free" mod so to speak, if that makes sense??
The stock 3V manifolds are pretty darned good! Nothing like the logs on the 2V. That is why there are so few aftermarket options - they don't fix anything.
You mention "hassle free".
That makes it even easier! Stick to the stock manifolds.
After the headers are installed you will have to check the bolts a couple times to make sure they are tight. After the gasket is compressed they usually stay tight but should be checked every so often. Headers are a little more noisy because of the thinner tubes but they usually eliminate the broken stud issues. The 3V manifolds are indeed much better than the 2V manifolds. Another option is to try and get some stronger/better studs and nuts from ARP and use the stock manifolds. It is up to you.
