I have an 84 f250 4x4 with a Dana 50 front axle. My passenger side tire sticks out about 3/4 of an inch further from my fender than my driver side tire. Also, the outside of the tire is wearing uneven and I just had it aligned and realigned. Thanks in advance for any info.
are your wheels exactly the same ? they could have a small offset one way or the other and as for the uneven tire wear that should be either tow in or tow out not quite right or maybe camber of the wheel what size are your tires and how long ago was the alignment job
Yes they are the same exact tires. It was aligned about three weeks and I noticed uneven wear on the passenger tire and took it back and the guy said he fixed it. It now pulls to the right and the wear seems to be getting worse. It seems to be tow in.
normally through my experience tow in pulls to the left tow out pulls to the right..... do all the rims match are they all 8" or 10" wide is what i was wondering not tires but your wheels
Toe in, not tow in. If I was towing something in, I'd be pulling it into the garage.
Your camber and toe in both sound like they're off. If the alignment is right, your tires should wear smooth across the top (correct camber and toe in) and not wander when driving on the road or start feathering (toe in and caster help stop wandering, feathering or wearing on the outside can be camber or toe in).
I'm with the others here... has the truck ever been wrecked? It'd be a good idea to be up underneath it checking out the suspension components. Another piece of advice would be to take the truck to someone who KNOWS what they're doing as far as alignments go. It probably wouldn't hurt to ask what he thinks about the front suspension either.
If your front end bushings are wore out (two I-beam bushings and two radius arm bushings), you'll never get it aligned right. Bad bushings let stuff move around that's not supposed to.
When I replaced all these bushings on my truck, it not only tracked alot straighter (still wanders a bit due to other issues), but handles the road so much better. It tightened everything up and keeps stuff lined up so it can take bumps and potholes without feeling like a speedboat. lol
Ive taken the truck to an alignment shop and two collision shops and all three said they don't want to mess with it. One shop referred me to another shop about 45 minutes away to take frame measurements and check if my frame is becoming diamond shaped. Also, the spacers underneath my front springs where they meet the front axle are off center. I checked the space between the cab and bed on both sIdes and the driver side gap was smaller. As far as the wreck issue, I can't get myself to spend 30 bucks for the carfax. On top of that, my front axle just dumped a 6" wide puddle of oil on my driveway...
