The timing on my truck became off after i rebuilt the carb. I am lost because i have never done this before and i dont have a book to look at. I need any kind of help i can get.
If you need to know the timing setting for your truck, it'll say on the Vehicle Emissions Control Information label on the radiator support of your truck, under the hood, over near the battery. It should say on the sticker there, as well as on the factory sticker that hopefully is still on your valve cover.
If you don't have a timing light, time it with a vacuum gauge.
What is the engine doing to make you think the timing is off?The engine timing doesn't change with a carb rebuild.Sputtering, hesitation or stumbling is likely due to carb tuning.Timing issues could be loss of power in lower rpm range, misfiring or hard starting among others.A description of the problem as well as a description of engine mods, mileage etc... would help us help you.
Okay, Big Vann is the only one who has helped. Sorry for everyone else. It is doing everything you just described. My dad knows his engines(use to build muscle cars) but is stumped and has been busy. He says when the engine is running the timing mark is about 4 inches back from the timing line. He cant get the timing mark to line up so he timed it to ear and it seems to be running better. I do know the carb is tuned sorta bad and i plan on fixing that. I am still learning how to do that.
