Whats everyone running on their dually? I like em wide out back, looks aggressive Pics would be great if you have some. I have a 99, so what are they 16x7? Thanks for the help. search did nothing for me on this one
Actually, I believe your rims are 16x6. Unfortunately, no one really makes a wider tire that is designed for a 6" rim. And putting a wider tire on also means using spacers to keep the rear tires from rubbing on each other. And I don't know how safe spacers between the two wheels are with towing and hauling. What I'm doing to fit a 35x10.5 Super Swamper tire on my dually is having Stockton Wheels in CA widen 6 steel wheels 1" to make them 16x7 as well as having them give me another 1/2" of backspacing to insure that the tires don't rub on each other. I just talked with them the other day and will be taking measurements and sending them a test rim sometime in the next couple of weeks. I believe I will still have to use a spacer behind the rear wheels on the hub to keep the inner tire and wheel from contacting the breakline off of the caliper and springs. I will also have to use one behind the front wheels to put the front and rear tires back into stock alignment with each other. If I measured correctly the spacer's shouldn't need to be more than an inch thick, but we'll see.
There is a truck right around the corner from me with 255.85.16s The tires are mud terrain by bfg, and it looks awesome. My problem is.... I have a 2wd and im not sure how a tire like that will look on my truck without lifting it first.
Sounds like you have quite a project going, good luck
I completely forgot about the 255/85 tire's. BFG states that it should go on a rim no narrower than 6.5". But to be honest, I really don't think putting them on 6" rim would be dangerous. They're only 7/10" wider and a little over an 1" taller than the 235/85's. I would imagine the tire would fill in your wheel wells a little more. I'm not sure, but my guess is that you would still have enough space between the rear tires as well, but it's just a guess.
I bought the dually to be the tow vehicle for my little Samurai rockcrawler, so I've tried to come up with the best way to keep it the solid, safe, tow vehicle it was designed be, but give it the ground clearance it needs to go down some of the trails I use to go shooting in the desert, as well as, be able to go as far down the trails I take the Samurai down if worst comes to worst and I have to recover it. Hopefully this plan will work.
