Cold Start Problems - EGR?
I have a very repeatable problem with my 1990 EFI I6. The first time I start the engine in the morning I have to use starting fluid, then the truck will search for idle and the check engine light will be on. After a few minutes there's a whoosh sound from something under the hood, maybe the EGR valve... can't tell. After that the check engine light goes out, the engine surges up to 1500 RPMs or so, then settles down and runs good all day. It will start right back up if I turn it off after that. This truck has the EGR pipe clamped off since it had new headers put on it at some point and they didn't plumb that line back in. I'd like to figure this out but it's hard to diagnose because I only have a few minutes at the beginning of each day to track it down.
