I was in at the local muffler shop and was asking some questions
and one answer was that you can test a diesel cat with a non-contact
thermometer like with a gas engine. Is this true?
If it is true I took it's temp after 30 min @ 60 MPH
212F @ the inlet pipe and 188F @ the center SGII
tells me EBP is 17.x @ idle.
I was guessing at how to do this. Is this the right way or
is there some other way to test the Cat?
Truck is an 06 with 151K miles on it Freeway no load @ 65 to 75 MPH I
was getting 21.5MPG hand calculated odometer verified accuracy.
So knowing this good cat bad cat or should I just not give a rats a$$
and put a test pipe in it's place?
To everyone reading today July 4 2012 Have a safe and fun day.
ok so what makes you think you have an issue?
if you suspect you have a bad cat back the pipe off a little bit and go drive it.
for what its worth we dont see many of the failed in the shop
Also, EBP is measured in the exhaust manifold, between the cylinder head and turbo. Unless the cat were really clogged, you wouldn't be able to use that sensor to indicate it's condition.
cheezit,
It just seems so much colder than what I had seen in the past with gas.
The truck is so quiet. I just did not know and that is why I asked.
What is the correct way to test one on a diesel?
william_04_x,
I did not have that pictured in my mind right.
Now I do.
Thanks guys
Sean
run up in neutral check for high ebp 35+. or as stated back off the pipe a little bit
testing delta on a diesel really doesnt work as it not a TWC, its a soot trap.
