I replaced my oil pan gasket, still leaking... replaced the rear main seal... was only a slight leak for a while until I loaded up my camper on the bed and took off on my cross country trip...
Now back to the same problem, I lose between 2-3 litres of oil on the road.
It seems to be worse under heavy loads, like pulling a trailer or camper on the bed...
The leak is not coming from the valve cover. It is pooling in the flywheel housing but a couple of rear oil pan bolts have oil on them.
When I park level, it seems to keep the oil overnight, if I dont park level I seem to leak oil overnight.
I should add, I am camping about 2500 kms from home right now, so although I have tools anything major its going to have to go to a shop, which I really would like to have an idea what I am dealing with before calling open season.
Check the back of the intake manifold, I had almost the same problem with a car I owned, took forever to track it down. The RTV was failing on the rear of the intake manifold and looked exactly like either the oil sending unit or rear main.
Agree with Chief...or the seal has squirted out. Check for any trace or witness marks...if there's oil coming from there, clean it and stuff it full of RTV.

thanks for your answers, I did check the intake and it looks like a fairly new gasket no sign of leaks anywhere to the rear, I forgot to mention its a 6-300 so inspecting the rear main isnt as easy as some of the 8's. When I push the cover against the flywheel housing right at the bottom oil pools a little.
I guess Im just looking for a reason to not drop my tranny again.
