I have a 97F250 with a 351 Windsor engine. I finally managed to get all the bolts out of the oil pan but can not manage to manuver the pan enough to remove it from the truck and replace it with the new one. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas to help. Also how long can I leave the engine without oil in it when not running at all???
Hi Kurt, sorry to hear about your troubles. I going to move this to the '87-96 F-series forum because they also cover your '97 F250 HD. You should get some more responses down there.
I have read that with the small blocks you can unbolt the motor mounts and get the motor jacked up high enough to get it past the cross member. Good luck, I am sure someone who has done it on a 351 will chime in soon!
I am about to do this on my 460, but I am pulling the motor.

I was able to do this with my 300, pretty sure it can be done with the V-8s too.
That is a great write up with pics. But I'm not so sure our pan comes out that easy. You may have to remove the intake manifold to get the engine a little higher up. Try it without removing the IM first and see if you can get it out. Let us know if you were able to do it without taking off the IM.
Good Luck!
