I have a '97 F350 with a leaky oil pan. I was reading my repair manual and it said that you have to lift the engine to get the pan off. I'm much handier around an engine than the average girl, but that sounds like a real pain in the #@***&%!!
Any hints from anyone who has done it?
It almost impossible to remove the pan and replace it without pulling the motor. The factory silicon is really tuff and wont let go. I think most places will tell you that the motor has to come out... Bummer huh!...............
yes sir it does need to come out or up high enough. when you go to put your new one on go to ih/ford and get the sealer. its not your average sealer. wacker t442.
If it's leaking at the sealing surface you might try cleaning it up and adding more sealant. If it's a pin hole leak through the metal you might be able to patch it with JB weld or something. I've removed and replaced several Powerstrokes....it's a lot of work. The oil pan is not only very difficult to pry off, but it's nearly impossible to clean the sealing surfaces without a wire wheel. That's why the mechanics charge $2000 to replace the oil pan on these things.
