I have a 2012 dually with a 190 amp alt on it: alt is the same as my 06 plugs and all but notice the center wire is being used at the voltage regulator plug on 2012 alt.(3 wires 2012) (2 wires 2006)
Are they interchangeable. ? ?
If you can figure out if they are the same part number then they probably are. With all of the electronics on the newer truck, I would have to believe they would be different just to support all of the newer electronics but who knows.
All diesel engine alternators use an internal stator circuit while gas engines use an external stator circuit. This is why you'll have only the light green with red stripe wire and orange with light blue stripe wires on the diesel engine alternators, while gas engines will have the two plus a white wire with black stripe (the 'S' circuit). But in answer to your question, no the two are not interchangeable.

Ok, dammit, thanks again Mike. I was hoping that you were going to see this post only wished your answer was going to be a different one. Thanks again reps coming when allowed...............
I not sure if I am a wizard.... but seems to me that owning my truck long enough and I may become one Hehe I just figured out how to install a sinister coolant filter kit. Hopefully the hundred miles between the egc/oil cooler replacement and the installation of the filter didn't allow to much crap to clog my coolers.
