So the shop took the egr off the intake, and left it connected(electrically). Also they removed the o2 sensor on the drivers side. There is a bung on the headers for the o2 sensor on the drivers side. Do i need this o2 sensor? I would think yes due to a cel. Anyone have any opinion on this ?
Fill us in on some more detail of what you had done here, is this the 460 truck in your sig or something else? Sounds like this shop isn't qualified to do the work they did, no truck built before 1995 has more than one O2 sensor and it absolutely has to be connected since it's the only feedback the computer gets on what the fuel mixture is. Headers often come with an O2 bung and if it's not used for a sensor then it has to be plugged, if you still have the stock exhaust behind the headers you won't need right now but you may later on. Why they would disconnect the EGR is strange unless the tube connected to the exhaust manifold, if that's the case you're going to need to have a bung welded on the header or you could block off the valve at the intake manifold, but you can't just leave the valve open. The EGR should remain connected and functioning to prevent codes but you can't let any fresh air pass through or the motor will behave like it has a big vacuum leak, hence the need for a blockoff plate between the valve and intake.
You're getting a CEL because of the missing EGR then, there is no way to completely remove this system and prevent codes the only option is to put the valve back on with the blockoff plate and reconnect vacuum and the position sensor.
The egr is still there, hooked up, vacuum and all, just resting on the drivers side next to the intake. The intake is blocked off where the egr was.
May as well bolt it back on then with the blockoff plate sandwiched between it and the intake.

There is no drivers side O2 sensor on these older trucks so no that's not what you're getting a code for, pull the codes to see what's up.. easy to do with a paper clip if you don't have a code reader.
