I have a 99 F350 automatic with the 4r100 transmission in it and about 6 montgs ago I paid a couple hundred bucks for our local diesel mechanic shop to diagnosis the truck for me because all of a sudden everytime I put it into gear, unless the transfer case is in neutral, the truck would die. If the truck was in park or neutral it would start idle and run fine and until you put it in R D 2 or 1. I just spent a couple grand and rebuilt the transmission, with all suncoast parts of course, I put the transmission back in thia weekend fired it up and the same exact thing is happening. As you can probably guess im a little upset with the shop at the moment since they told me that was the problem and it obviously was not! Anyone have any ideas or suggestions as to what the problem may be?
I was thinking that also but the shop I had diagnose the problem said it couldnt be because it would drive in reverse. Which was true at first but then reverse went out as well. So maybe now its completly out or something I dont know.
I read a thread on here not long ago and the guy had the same problem and I was surprised with the solution he found, but I can't remember what it was. Someone will chime in though, because it wasn't that long ago. Try doing a search.
There are a few reasons that can cause the converter to lock up and kill the engine. The most common is a loose internal filter or even low fluid, other reasons are pump related. Now that the transmission has been rebuilt I would doubt the loose filter and low fluid.
Pump issues such as cross leaks or low pump volume can be the cause. Cross leaks can be due to warped pump half's that can go undetected during a rebuild, so the trans still may have to be removed to change the pump.
Have you changed programmers? Seems like the guy changed programmers and something had to be reset for the new programmer because it was using values from the old programmer. He would put it into gear and it would die like it was transmission or TC. Sorry I can't be more help......
Just tried it with and I get the same situation. I found one thread and they were talking aboit the VSS fixing their problem so I may try and change that real quick.
Well I just talked to suncoast and the ford tech said without even hesitating that its the oil pump so I ordered one and it looks like im gonna take the tranny back out and replace it. Thanks for the help everyone!
