Hi. I just had my flexplate fixed at a local trans shop 2 days ago. I started to have problems shifting into park at earlier today. When trying to engage into park i would have to give it just a little bit more of a push then had to force the lever towards the engine. It wasnt smooth like it was before the trans shop. Just about 10 minutes ago I was getting ready to go shopping and it wouldnt shift out of reverse. The shifting lever just goes up and down but wont engage any position. Now I cant start my truck at all. I am thinking they didnt align something correctly. It was shifting flawlessly before they got a hold of it.
I had the same thing happen to my truck a few weeks ago, although I didnt have the truck previously worked on. The problem I had when it was stuck in reverse was a rod in the steering column had broken off, Fords are natorius for that breaking. Thats the only thing I know that may be wrong. But it may also be something internal.
I dont mind paying and fixing it if its my problem but if they caused it how can I prove it. I have a feeling they are gonna say its not related to the work they did and then I wasted 50 bucks on a tow and then what.
I would first go to the shop where you had it worked on and discuss your problem with them and go on from there. Or you could also find out the actual problem and go from there depending if faulty work from them or not.

How much did it cost to fix the rod btw? Also how can I myself check to see if thats the problem as well as id like to go through a few things before I have to pay to get it towed.
I think im going to bring it to another local trans shop and have them check it out. When they tell me whats wrong ill then tell them I just had some trans work done and if that could have cause this current problem. If they say yes then I have a professional opinion saying its the problem so the place that did the work wont try to screw me over. And if its not there fault then im already at a shop atleast. Any thoughts?
Well I got my lazy butt underneath and found that the linkage came apart. I think that it was never really taken apart and that its a little looser now. Its also not 100% aligned. Not flush. When I switch gears the one that goes into the other one slips out. Im wondering if I can just slightly bend the other one so it makes perfect contact not at a slight angle.
If they slid the tranny back far enough to change the flex plate without unhooking the shift rod, they probably bent it while doing the work.
I know almost nothing about automatics, not even sure if the above thoughs are possible.
But I have seen some weird shortcuts attempted before.
Funny thing is the weirdest ones probably made the job harder that it would have been doing it the right way.
