Hey guys! I am knee deep in removing my E4OD from behind my 460. Iv got both driveshafts off, crossmember out, all hardware unplugged, and engine-to-tranny bolts out. Whats left? The torque converter bolts! Forgot about these dudes til very last. Trannys bein held up by a floor jack lol. Anywho, I cant seem to shake these bolts loose for nothin! Im usually pretty good at improvising but Its just not comin to me. The only thing I tried is a wrench with a knuckle on it. Its not that theyre just tight, its the location. I cant get a good angle on it because of where the oil pan and exhaust is (see pics). Any ideas?
That rusty lookin thing is the exhaust, the thing with the bolt in it is the oil pan, and right below it in the background is the TC bolt... Cant go behind the exhaust and come from the bottom because the exhaust overlaps the tranny if that makes sense, cant take the exhaust off because the manifold bolts are rusted all to hell, and cant take the oil pan off because of the engine crossmember
I would remove the starter. Also at least on my 5.0 the flywheel, If I remember correctly bolts to both the transmission on one side and the engine on the other side.
You take a red and green wrench (torch) and heat the exhaust studs nuts to cherry red and then use an impact to take the manifold to header pipe nuts off. Works every time for me.
If you will take the starter off, you will have room where the starter was to get to the nuts. You will need to use a screwdriver up against the trans (again, where the starter was) and inserted into a ring gear tooth to keep the flywheel from turning when you try to loosen the nuts.
