Nice find, welcome to the fourm, and what are your planse with it? Please post your vin so we can decode and see what you got!! Also what is the back story on the truck if you know it, and welcome again!!
i have decoded the VIN to include the fact it was built in San Jose and made it to No. Fl. (that must be a story!) but do not know what the D in the sixth position as part of the unit number means, the guy i bought it from says it was his mother's truck on the farm down here
NumberDummy is the guy on here that can decode pretty much anything. If there's something you aren't $100 sure with, post the vin here.
I'd also check to make sure that is a real 390 by checking the stroke. Take the #1 and # 8 cylinder spark plugs out and bring the crank to TDC and measure both cyl. with some type of dowel or measuring stick. 3.78" is a 390. 3.50" is a 360 and it's possible it could be that.
do not know what the D in the sixth position as part of the unit number means
The "D" in the sixth position is the first digit of your serial number. The D and the following five numbers is your sequential serial number.
When the parts catalog says from serial number Dxx,xxx or before Dxx,xxx this is the number they are refering to.
Welcome to FTE, what part of north FL?
