I have a 1965 Ford F-100 with stock factory rims. Would like to know what is the modern recommended tire size to put on this truck using these rims. I was told P215/75R15 would be a good choice. What do you think? Thanks.
IMO, I would go with at least a 235-75 x 15. But then I'd get some 15x7 rims or bigger....but still, if stuck with stock rims, 235-75 or 235-70 if you want a little smaller diameter.
These trucks were under-tired when new. You could expect a set of car tires to last about 20,000 miles, if that. LT tires a bit longer.
Thanks for the picture. That looks good and probably what I will end up getting. Is there much width difference between the 215 and the 225 sizes? At least both will fit on the stock rim.
Visually, I can't see much of a difference. You can find a "tire size calculator" or something online that will tell you how high different tires are.
Here is a before/after pic.
Unpainted rims = 225/75r15's
Painted=215/75r15's
I probably would have stuck with the 225's and maybe 235's...just because I like them a tad bigger, but I am happy with these as well. It's not something I ever think about....saying, "man I wish I would have gotten 225's!"
Maybe go with what's cheaper... That's what these were!
