engine swap 4.6 to 5.8

i recently bought a 2003 f150 super crew with a pos 4.6l and i wanna to put a 351 windsor in it. but i dont know if it would fit with out a bunch of modifications.

i also have a 87 bronco manual. would it jus be easier to put the 351 in that n the 302 from the bronco in to the f150

The Windsor is physically smaller than the Modular so it would fit no problem, but it won't mate to the existing trans so that would have to go too, and to minimize wiring changes you would need a '96 spec 5.8 engine and trans to swap in since that was the only year it had OBD-2(an earlier 5.8 would also work but you would have to find the rare crank and DPFE sensors for it). There would also be mounting issuses to contend with of course but that's not a big deal if you have some fab skills.

Drop a torque built 5.4 and raise the gear ratio. That will give you everything you want for a beast mud truck.

ok. Sorry I didn't explain everything. Here ya go. The money spent on fabbing, rewiring, dealing with the PATS,can be spent elsewhere. However, if this is for kicks and giggles, go for it take lotsa pics and start a thread on it. However, the issues will have to be overcome. The 4R70w wont bolt to either of those blocks. Integrating the gauges will take a bit. Motor mounts will have to be fabbed. A custom trans mount/support will be necessary. The 03uses COP while the others use plugs and wires. The firing order will be different which means computer stuff. You'll have to find a way to get the trans to shift which means a possible independent trans controller. Idk where u live but smog regulations might be an issue. If this is a dd then its not recommended. But as a mudding truck..... go for it. Hope this helps and gives u a bit of an idea of the scope of work needed. Best of luck to ya!

Wast of time unless money is not an issue here.

That is my guess, in other words pretty much the same or a little more than the truck is worth with a working modular and it will devalue it greatly after the 5.8L swap.
