5.0 EFI versus 4.6 Liter ??? Help??

I ran across a sweet deal on a 95 Lincoln Mark 8 with a 4.6 and transmission. I can get the whole car for cheap. I would love to put this motor in my truck but I have already set my truck up for a 5.0 EFI.... I am now at a decision point. I might just buy the car and take the motor and trans along with computer and harness and just sit it to the side. I think I am too far down the road to turn back. What do you guys think.....?

I think that was a bad year for the 4.6. If I remember correctly, the 5.0 put out more HP and torque.

By the list of toys in your signature, I can tell you're no stranger to the extra largeness of the 4 cam 4.6 engine, as found in the MK VIII and your Cobra Mustang. So you know just what you'd be up against trying to shoe horn that big hunk of muscle in the tiny confines of an F1 engine compartment. So I guess the big question is, how bad do you want it? The 5.0 fits in those trucks so sweet, it's almost no challenge. Are you up for the fight? It would be unique and be super cool when you popped the hood at the local Dairy Queen. But it'll be a lot of work and custom fabrication, and it coould set your project back months, or more. Decisions...decisions...

I have 97 F-150 with a 4.6. I know that's not the same thing, but it would have to be pretty close. The engine is unimpressive to say the least. Economy 4 cylinder cars sometimes outrun me up hills if I don't get enough acceleration going before I get there. Plus the fuel mileage really isn't that great either. There's nothing wrong with a 4.6, but expect a big performance drop from the 5.0.

That would be a DOHC in the Lincoln, more horses than a regular 4.6 litre.

I am in the middle of putting my 5.0 back together. I can't imagine what a 4 cam 4.6 would cost to rebuild! OUCH!

Basically a Cobra engine with a beefy AOD trans and an IRS to boot...what could be wrong with that? Part out the rest of the car to recoup your investment. The air bags and pump will bring most of your purchase price alone.

Like I always say, "I can resist anything but temptation!"

Ah, DOHC. I assumed it was the one they put in the Mustang in 96. I remember all of the press at the time was quite disappointing.
