On my in laws 2000 explorer the cruise control does not work.
When driving and activating the cruise control (on, then set), the cruise-control dash light comes on for a fraction of a second and goes off again.
Tried it at freeway speeds.
Any clue ? I heard there is a seperate brake switch for the cruise control and one for the brake lights. The brake lights operate normal. Could it be the other switch ? If so where is this switch ? Under the dash or under the hood ?
Do you know if they had the recall work done for the brake switch fire concern? If not, the switch may have been unplugged while waiting to have the work performed, or due to an out of stock switch, or the switch is in the early stages of failure.
I assume you would have mentioned if their speedometer isn't working, or if the ABS light is also on.

I don't know if the recall was done or not. They bought it used. I guess a call to the dealer is in order.
Everything else is working normal. ABS light is off and speedometer is working.
Easy to determine if the recall retrofit is installed. Check beside the master cylinder, if you do not see an additional wire bundle the refit has not been completed.... Philip
The de-activiation switch may have been unplugged for safety until the retrofit harness was installed-thats what Ford said to do until the work was done-the PO of the vehicle may have done this and never taken it in to get the recall done.....
