Do you have the lever for the high beams in the column? I forget which year they moved it from the floor to the steering column. When they put it in the column, the integrated it in with the turnsignal switch and called the multi-function switch.
If it's on the column, go buy a testlight that has the sharp end on it. Ground the clip to a good metal ground, and then look at the wires leaving the bottom of the column. When you turn the headlights on, you should be able to poke the red/yellow wire and get power(this is the power going into the column from the switch).
With it in lowbeam position, you should be able to poke the red/black and get power(this is the wire to the lowbeams). When you switch to highbeams, power should leave the red/black, and be transferred to the lightgreen/black. If you get no power on the lightgreen/black, your switch is probably bad in the column.
i don't mean to ask dumb questions, but are you sure the headlight bulbs are good? a couple days ago i was troubleshooting someone's headlights that i had personally replaced 3 months ago, and her low beams didn't work at all, she said they went out at about the same time. after studying relays and wiring, i finally inspected one of the bulbs and saw what happened.
having checked there, use that test light to check power at the bulbs, as i've often seen sockets go bad and just fail to make good contact with the bulb.
also, i have to ask: did this problem start before you got the truck, or did it develop recently
