Dual alt's for electric fan setup

Ive been thinking about putting an electric fan to give me a little boost on power by dropping the motor driven one. The main issue i got is I can't really afford a bigger amp, then it hit me.....maybe I can run dual alternators because I have a gap above the alternator on my orange explorer unlike the blue ford that I'm now using as parts and will eventually part the rest of it put if anybody is interested on any of the pieces I don't use. Is there a way to mount the other alt I have? I know I'll need a bigger belt, just need some help on how I could mount the other one if it is feasable.

It doesn't make sense to use two sub-standard alternators to avoid the cost of doing things the right way. This would also leave a mess of wiring. Instead, you should do a 3G swap with a junkyard alternator. One of the many threads on this topic should have a cost worksheet; it's not all that expensive.

2x.. one 3G alternator is generally equal to a dual stock alternator set-up. Plus ya don't run the risk of breaking or throwing a belt on a very dependent and important system.

I run a dual V-groove alt pulley on my 3G and use two belts to hedge against the possibility of breaking one.... plus a dual battery system is in my future. It's been done cheaper but my 3G retrofit only cost about $50 and I'm getting 14.62 VDC at idle.

X3, 3g>2x stock alternators, and the cost is probably less. Plus as was previously stated, better charging at idle, which is when you'll be most likely to run your electric fan.

Just think of it this way... if a standard 130 amp 3G was more than enough for the factory, it is more than enough for you.

The Mark VIII fan is the big daddy of electric fans and the 3G barely sneezes at it.

Just keep the engine driven fan. You pay to run it, or you pay to run the alternator at a heavier load for longer times. Is your fan clutch in working order?

It can take 35+ hp to run a fixed fan. An alternator running an electric fan is 1-5 horsepower.
