A few years ago I pulled a 460 and C6 trans from a 66 Continental the transmission has a weird bolt pattern it looks like if I change the spacer plate the engine will bolt to a smallblock bellhousing. Is anyone familar with this pattern? Also, I probably will not use the transmission, because I will put the engine in a 4x4, is there any demand for this bolt weird pattern transmission? Probably needs rebuilt had water in it and I have been thinking of scrapping trans.
the block bolt pattern is for the 351M, 400, 429, and 460 engines. all other engines use a different bolt pattern.
BUT the 460 was not introduced until 1968, so if the car had a 460 in it it was transplanted in there by a previous owner.
it is more likely a FE, or Mercury/Lincoln/Edsel engine
That was the old 462 engine in there. Nothing to do with the 460.
There's really no need for those anymore, unless you find the one person that is in need of it.
IMO, see if you can sell it or send them in for scrap and use the money for a 77+ /c-6, there's plenty to be had.
Probably a MEL engine. Are you sure its a C-6? Dad had a '64 and the transmission had a cast iron case, certainly not a C-6. Maybe by '66 a more modern transmission was used, but with the MEL bolt pattern.
Thanks guys for your help I did some searching the car must have had a 462 at one time found on the mel engine forum it is a lincoln specific bolt pattern for the 462. I also found out the dual pattern carried over to the 1968-70 460 to fit the pattern. I also found the tag that the engine is a Ford reman 460ci. The only thing I cannot find out is what the second bolt pattern is I guess Ill have to try it and find out. I guess the trans would only fit a lincoln from 66 to 70 not worth keeping.
