There are smallblock c6's and big block c6's. It sounds like you have a big block c6, in which case it will not bolt directly to a small block. The 351m, 400, 429 and 460, among others, will bolt up.
If the C6 is off a 460 it has the big block bolt pattern. The 302 has the small block pattern so it wouldn't work without making some changes. It will however bolt up to a 351M/400 (which have the big pattern).
tons of mustangs came with C6's mounted to 302's. they of course have the small block pattern. you can buy those pretty cheap from a lot of guys looking to convert to manual trans.
