Greetings from a veteran of the 1987-1997 F-series forums. After much searching it looks like I finally found an awesome 2004 Excursion 4WD to add to my fleet! It's a loaded up Limited with the 6.8L gas engine and ~125K on the odometer. I purposely sought a gasser, not much of a diesel guy! Even my Bobcat skid loader runs on gas....
Anyway, I thought I would pop in here to introduce myself and boast a bit about finding an Excursion with the options I was looking for. I already read up on some common mods and other helpful bits of info.
I hope to come home with a "new" black Ex by the end of Saturday. It's only 400 miles one way to pick it up
I'll post some pics once we seal the deal and get her home.
On the trip home I calculated 13 MPG running 70-75 MPH most of the way. That's calculated with a known good odometer and full fuel tank fill-ups. Comparing the speedometer with the wife's 2004 Dodge Intrepid shows the Ex speedo may be 3-4 MPH off @70. Gear ratio is 4.30, the tires are stock replacement size. Not bad IMHO.
Under those same conditions, 70-75 MPH, my 1992 F350 4x4 w/5.8L engine and E4OD trans. gets 10-11 MPG. No lift, stock height but wider tires. 3.55 gears and a light foot.
Great looking EX! Welcome to the club. And yes hide your wallet, I like spending other peoples money. I spend too much on mine, but it's cheaper then buying a new vechical. I plan on keeping mine a long time.
