Newb-First Excursion and First Diesel

Feel like I am following in the Grumpy Old Troll’s footsteps to a certain extent. I too Jjust purchased a new to me Ex. It is a 2005 Eddie Bauer 4x4 diesel. The Ex has only apx 40,000 miles. The 6.0 has been BulletProofed and studded by prior owner. Waiting on new tires to come in. After I put the new shoes on, I will post pictures.

Prior to the excursion I was a Toyota Land Cruiser guy, but with a wife, two kids and three dogs, the LC was getting cramped. Started research and fell in love with Exs.

I have already learned a lot from reading this site.

I am in Phoenix, AZ and I am looking for recommendations for mechanic to help me keep the Ex running strong for years to come. The mechanic I am looking for needs to be skilled but also honest and trustworthy. As noted above, this is my first diesel so I have a little bit of learning curve on maintenance issues. All suggestions for a mechanic/shop are greatly appreciated.

In addition to the sticky threads on this site, any other suggested reading on maintaining the Ex?

Steve

I found bismic's spreadsheets regarding the 6.0 and related mods to be very helpful. You can post a message on his wall asking for a copy of the spreadsheets here or just post in his thread that I will post below:

Here is the info post he has w/ regard to the spreadsheets: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/75...ew-owners.html

Good luck

Hi AZSDJ,
Sounds like you found a Great Rig.

You & I sound very similar. I also have a FJ 80 Toyota LandCruiser (with optional Center Lock) but it apparently dropped a piston after a little oil trouble (at only 100,000).

With the wife & 3 kids, I thought about rebuilding it, but the cost surprised me. Even with a rebuild, it wasn't recommended for towing my 22 foot bay boat, so I looked at other "more capable" vehicles as a second rig, & fell in love with the Excursion.

We have a newer Expedition EL Limited as our daily driver, but I felt guilty using it for salt water boat duty.

I'm thinking I found the perfect rig for my needs in the Excursion.

I'm sure you & I have lots of the same questions. I'll be following your post closely & chiming in from time to time.

Welcome, Bro!

nmclella - Nice Info!

When I lived in Phoenix from 09-12, I took my Ex to The Car Repair Company (that's really the name) in Scottsdale. They were AWESOME!
