Newb-First Excursion and First Diesel
Prior to the excursion I was a Toyota Land Cruiser guy, but with a wife, two kids and three dogs, the LC was getting cramped. Started research and fell in love with Exs.
I have already learned a lot from reading this site.
I am in Phoenix, AZ and I am looking for recommendations for mechanic to help me keep the Ex running strong for years to come. The mechanic I am looking for needs to be skilled but also honest and trustworthy. As noted above, this is my first diesel so I have a little bit of learning curve on maintenance issues. All suggestions for a mechanic/shop are greatly appreciated.
In addition to the sticky threads on this site, any other suggested reading on maintaining the Ex?

Good luck
Sounds like you found a Great Rig.
You & I sound very similar. I also have a FJ 80 Toyota LandCruiser (with optional Center Lock) but it apparently dropped a piston after a little oil trouble (at only 100,000).
With the wife & 3 kids, I thought about rebuilding it, but the cost surprised me. Even with a rebuild, it wasn't recommended for towing my 22 foot bay boat, so I looked at other "more capable" vehicles as a second rig, & fell in love with the Excursion.
We have a newer Expedition EL Limited as our daily driver, but I felt guilty using it for salt water boat duty.
I'm thinking I found the perfect rig for my needs in the Excursion.
I'm sure you & I have lots of the same questions. I'll be following your post closely & chiming in from time to time.
Welcome, Bro!
nmclella - Nice Info!
