Screeching sound from engine area!
I would say you should also load test your battery, sounds like it is drawing a lot of load from your alt., very possible it is fine but could possibly have an internal problem.
I have a 94 Mustang with a 460 swapped in but I retained the original Alt. and serpentine belt, it also squeals when first started but goes away after a couple of seconds.

A warn pulley can cause squeals also as the inner sides touch the pulley gets a mirror glaze and the belt not grabbing hold when unload. I had this problem until, I re-dressed the v-grove on my high speed wire wheel/grinder braking the glaze was a fix for me. I did all pulleys when doing the harden seat valve job back in 1995. A glazed belt will slip, The wrong size belt not fitting correctly into the v-pulley. Or like O/P said a lose belt. A Lot of guys don't know how much to tighten a belt is mostly the problem too..
