A couple of weeks ago my cam position sensor was replaced. Since then, I get a high piched sound in the front of my engine. I do not know if they are related. It sounds like barrings on the altinator or other component is going bad, but when I remove the belt, all spins fine without any noise or roughness. Any ideas?
I'd say it's your fan belt. Mine did that when it was new, which the dealer replaced the belt. And my neighbor's did it too. I believe there was a TSB out on this..... but I'll have to re-check to be sure.
It is not when I shut it off. Its a constant, sometimes going away for a while. It sounds almost like metalic(metal sliding by metal). No performance changes. It does not sound loud or anything. Just in there with the rest of the engine noise. It does seem to speed up with RPMs. I will change my belt and see what happens.
Would I feel it if i spin it with a cool engine? Because all my investigating points to that area of the truck......It is hard to localize. As you know the engine is pretty noisy on the good days.LOL. Thanks, I will look at changing the belt and checking the water pump.
