Under the steering column and you will see a small (about 3/16 dia) hole in the plastic under where the ignition cylinder is. In the hole you will be able to see a little ball in a hole. Insert the key into the ignition and turn to RUN position. Use a small allen key or small screwdriver in the hole under the column and push up while feeling around until you feel some give in the screwdriver - this will push the release button (ie push the ball in) on the ignition cylinder, then pull on the key and the whole ie tumbler will come out.
hi, I'm having a similar issue- truck is borrowed because my GMC is having issues, and...well, I won't go there, but the long and short of it is that the ignition cylinder appears to be the problem in the Ford.
I have a new one, and this sounds straightforward enough if it applies to the 01 as it does the OP's truck, but I cannot get the key to turn at all.
thank you. The getting the key in the RUN position may or may not be an issue, I did get the truck started last night, even though the steering wheel was locked, there was enough play that it made the difference when I tried to turn it a little.
I guess I was tired when I posted, I didn't notice that OP said ignition SWITCH. My issue appears to be the ignition CYLINDER.
And if there was any grease on it at all, the guy at O'Reilly's wiped it off while playing with it- it hasn't any.
