ok so after all the info I have been hearing and seeing on here. Im going to go with the SCT and get some custom tunes eventually just got to figure out whos to go with. I do have one last question. When I select the EGR off function is that pretty much the same as an EGR delete?
Thanks again guys still learning about this motor and this is def a good place to get the answers!
I have the edge and put it in for maybe 5 min and promply took it out the truck shifted like a absalute mule but a buddy of mine has the same one and loves it and went into the program and changed all the shift points you guys figure he will have the tranny issue or since he played with it a bit may be good sorry for the hijack

Why some guys use Edge programmers kills me. The sct custom tunes also program the transmission. Do a search and you will verify this. If you want to guess on where you're transmission should shift, you better save some money for a rebuild.
What kind of other mods do you recommend before going with a tune? I have a 4" straight pipe, EGR delete and a blue spring upgrade. Should I worry about head studs or anything else?
Are programs from Innovative diesel & gearhead automotive preformance priced pretty goid? And what's blue spring i see people talking about? Sorry to change the subject
The blue spring upgrade increases your fuel pressure and helps your injectors last longer. About 70 bucks for the kit and can be installed in your driveway. Worth every penny.
I'm another who will say stay away from the edge.I too have an sct my tunes are from Innovative as well.I run the extreme street all the time unless im towing.I've run it for about 40,000 miles not a single problem at all.Ialso have the tow tune with the exhaust brake, which i must say is amazing!!!! Innovative had great service and actually took the time to ask what i was looking for out of my truck.Depending on my gear ratio tire size and what i wanted to do with the truck. And actually wrote the tunes from there. Not just a set of tunes that wont apply to every truck. Or the owners wants or needs for there particular application.
does any one know about the EGR off function on the SCT. Does it act like an EGR delete?
It's an electronic version of the EGR delete. It does allow you to remove the tune and everything be legal on the truck, unlike the delete which is pretty well done with once you delete the EGR.
If you just have to do try to take the EGR out of the loop, I would do it electronically, at least you can reverse it on a moments notice.
I had a bulldog programmer an the bullydog outlook monitor. It was in my truck when I bought it. When I had it on performance mod an was in the go pedal pretty good an trans shifted I thought it was goin to rip the trans out of my truck because it shifted so hard. Made good power but also kelp EGT kinda high to.
When I done my studs an HG I pulled all that out an got a SCT livewire used from a guy on here. I love the SCT tuner ALOT better. It's canned tunes don't make as much power as the bullydog did but my EGT are alot lower with the SCT.
Soon to get custom tunes after I get my gauges. IMO I would get a SCT tuner, scangauge, an a few pillar pod gauges an I think that would still be cheaper than the edge cts. An you would be able to access more info from your truck.
