Ok,my 96 is having a bit of an issue. If it sits for more than a day i believe the resivour goes low.it will start but die and then try again and with a bit more cranking it will go.it gets oil pressure on the gauge pretty long after firing(several seconds)
and then is just fine.i went on vacation and it sat for 10 days and i t was a bit harder to get oil pressure and running.
She has 317000 but my friend whom i purchased it from did a melling hv lpop a couple of years ago but i dont think it ever really totally cured this problem.i dont have any external oil leaks but where do i go from here to diag where it is draining or leaking back? Opinions???thanks!
There are a few reasons for the oil to leak back .. Injector O rings bad , Pressure relief valves in the oil filter (Cooler) header. & there is a check valve in the valley .
The most common are the O rings Or the valves in the header ..
It might be worth checking the res gasket too.. Its not a big job ...
How do i access the two check valves?i hate to do injector orings and not do something with the injectors at this time.i am building a 2k motor to swap in but it will be a while before i could be done.i planned to do big injectors on it....maybe i just do orings afterall...
The more i think about this the more i am thinking i deff need to check the check valvrs first.this thing leaks down too fast and does not show oil pressure on the gauge way too slow.
One is in the oil filter head. Pull the filter and you'll should sees screen off to the side of the threads. The second one is in the block below the HPOP around the front of of the HPOP
THere are two bypass valves in the rear header , one you can see as was mentioned with the filter off , the other is horizontal .. I have pics but I'll have to look for them ,, the CV up top is IIRC in the front of the block. I'll look for that pic too..
