He had not had it off.the gasket had been on it for so long it had gone bad.i still cant believe it was that easy.
yea,i wish i had checked...especially while i had it off the first time...and had to go out of my way to buy the second incorrect gasket when i had ordered and had the correct one sitting here. Thanks for giving me such a hard time! Sometimes i guess i just need to be punched in the gut...i just wish this had fixed the shuddering problem and lack of charging when the fans are on.but i suppose those will be for another day.
I've found several times that it's the simple and obvious things that get overlooked....with me anyway. I call it going around my a$$ to get to my elbow! LOL!!! That's the way I feel sometimes!
U summed it up.the sad part is post #4.....i had not even gotten started on getting it into the shop.i was finishing my bosses mustang rack i stall.if only i had listend.im ashamed of my ignorance...
Now what we have here is the source of me getting no sleep, one ulcer and my wife thoriughly mad at me over this pile of misery...
yep,you guessed it...
the gasket on the left is what was on there when I tore it down,so that is what I replaced it with...after being reminded repeadedly by action that something was amiss...I tore it back apart and looked.
I had NOT studied it before.THAT was MY fault for assuming the previous tech had done the job correctly.
SO now that I am the moron...THANK you action.I should send you c check for the money you just saved me! If only I had just had it laying around.
I've read every post in this thread because I also have been chasing this same exact problem with the oil draining down on my 95 PS. Is the gasket marked 96 up the incorrect gasket that you used ? I need to take a look at the gasket I pulled off when I pulled my HPOP (2nd time) and see if it is incorrect.

thx
the 96^ marked gasket was correct for my 96 application.
fixed the issue the previous owner was unable to rectify (my very good friend)
the incorrect gasket was installed very early in the trucks life. the owner before my buddy never had any major work done. he owned it from 100k- 264k when my buddy bought it. The original owner never stated any issues the time i spoke with him either so who knows how long it had been messed up.

Wonder if pump or engine was changed out at some time.
