Don't know yet, I called twice between 9am and noon, and got a colleague of the person that told me to call him, and he told me both times that the person is with a client, I left a message for him to call me, but he did not call. So, I don't know if that is good news, or bad news. I will call again tomorrow, and if he does not call, I will just go down there. He is not as desperate as I am, and i know he is very busy, but I do not want him to forget about me. I wish my brother was a tad closer, he has an unused room I could use. I am spending way too much on fast food, and my food stamps are going too. I have not drank so much ice water in a long time either. I usually only order water with whatever I choose on the dollar menu at Mc Donalds, and with the heat wave these past few days, I have been buying bags of ice like crazy. And a case of water for the truck. I got a small cooler/lunch box, and a friend of mine at the Thrift store that I volunteer at gave me a 2nd one. So I fill them up with ice in the morning, and then put some water bottles, or salads, or grapes or whatever I want to eat in there. Can't wait for the cooler weather to get here, so the ice will last longer. FYI if you want cheap ice Winco sells a 10 pound bag for 98 cents. I bought a 9 pound bag at Walgreens, and it cost me $4.29!
God is good! Not only did I get placed in a home today, but I may have a job also. I got a call before I went to the VA hospital and the lady told me she would put my name on the list for a home, but that their program is really geared toward Vets who are chronically homeless, and suffering from drug or alcohol abuse (here we go again). She said they meet every Wednesday to select the vets they will give vouchers too since they only get so many vouchers a month to give out.
One thing I have learned this past week is that the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. So after hanging up from that call, I just thought, well, there is the bad news for today, let the meeting at the VA hospital be the good news.
So I went to the meeting, and he tells me he can put me in a home today. Then he stops, and thinks a moment, then starts staring at me. Then he asks me if I have ever had a problem with drugs or alcohol. I tell him no. He asks if I am looking for work, and I tell him yes. So then he says "Can you be a home manager?" And I told him at this point I can be anything you want, even a gardener if needed. He makes a call, and tells someone he has found someone to be a home manager. He says it does not pay well, and it pays in cash, but I will have free room and board. Mainly I would be making sure all the tenants abide by the rules, do their chores, and I would dole out the meds in the morning.
I told him I can do that. He says he will do the paperwork on Monday, so hopefully after that I will be in a home as a manager and not have to abide by the rule that says you have to be out of the house between 8:30am until 3pm. The home is not really geared for someone like me, but I am not complaining, I am so glad to not be sleeping in the Bronco, and it is only temporary until I get the house manager job. on top of that, the home I am in now is only about a mile south of my storage unit, and maybe 3 miles from my church.
