No such luck guys, I have finished moving everything out of the house, and into a storage unit. My best friend's boyfriend came back on Thursday from their vacation in Idaho, and I called him to ask for help. He came by and we got everything out. have not turned in the keys to the landlord, because she was not home.
I am currently at a local Mc Donald's, checking emails. I will be sleeping in the Bronco tonight, either at the local Walmart, or my church's parking lot. Mc Donald's lemonade tastes terrible. Howev4er, I am so thirsty (and worn out) from moving in 106 degree temps I don't care. I needed to get some liquid in my system. right now I feel sick to my stomach, but that is probably because I ate too fast. Will keep you posted on the situation.
Jim
Howdy Jim, hang in there guy, something will turn up, like Hank said the church usually helps out, I'll say a prayer for you finding some housing, buddy!
Good morning everyone & Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads out there....
I took my Mother to a cenetaph grand opening near here, interlocking bricks were laid to raise $ & my Dads name is engraved on 2 of them, he was a WW2 Vet, its great to see, Ger
Happy Pappy day to all you Pappy's and grand Pappys out there in NorCal. Hope you all have a great day.
The landlord let me stay in the house last night. I tried sleeping in the Bronco in the driveway, but it was too hot (11:30 at night, and still 93 degrees.) so I went inside and tried to sleep on the floor. It was interesting. Try keeping your right leg straight, and then get down on the floor. Or, better yet, once on the floor, keep our right leg straight, and get up. Sometimes I miss my wheelchair.
Anyway, I talked with the pastor today, and he mentioned a local church organization that might be able to help with temp housing. They are only open during the week, so he wants me to stop by the office tomorrow, and we will contact them. I will most likely spend the night in the church parking lot so I don't have to drive there in the am. Hope it is cooler than last night.
Parking in the church parking lot was interesting to say the least. It seems to be very busy with people waling through to other parts of the neighborhood. So I parked in front of the house and tried to sleep only to startle someone "tagging" my left rear window.
God willing, that was the last night I'll have to do that. Going to find out today about the temp housing.
Got some good news yesterday. The agency the pastor called, recommended the local homeless shelter, so I went down there, and at first, they stated they couldn't help me because I was not a recovering drug addict, or alcoholic!
Doesn't makes sense to me that a homeless shelter only helps homeless people suffering from some sort of addiction. I am sure there are quite a few homeless people like me who have just been out of work too long. And before I could say anything, the case manager asked me if I was a veteran. I told him I was, and he said he could find me a VA subsidized apartment that I would share with another veteran.
I have never used any of my VA benefits, so he sent me to the local VA hospital to get enrolled, and now he is going to help me get into an apartment. Hopefully that will happen today, but knowing that this is a government agency, who knows when it will happen? However, Les (the case manager) seems to think it will be this week sometime. He was going to have me stay at the shelter last night but they only had top beds available, and I can't get into one.
So, I called my best friends' boyfriend, and asked him if I could park in his driveway for the night, and he agreed. So I did that. Today I meet with Les at 1pm and he is going to take me to a different VA place to start the apartment search. Who knows, maybe I will have enough money left over to get internet services back on? Since they base it on your income, I am guessing I will have some money left over after making the rent payment. So hopefully it will be enough to get internet.
Update on the housing situation, it seems the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. One person says one thing and a second person says something totally different. it appears that the program that Les was trying to get me in I don't qualify for as I don't make enough money. That program pays the deposit plus the 1st month's rent, but then I am supposed to take over with my income. But my income is too low. So, now they are talking about a VASH voucher (Veteran's Administration Subsidized Housing) which is basically section 8 (HUD) partnered with the VA. I need to go to the VA hospital tomorrow between 9am and noon, and apply for that. So another hoop to jump through. At this point I have no idea how long I will be homeless waiting for a place. The rescue mission is really a last resort for me, I would rather sleep in the bronco, then there.
