My 2005 F150 has developed an intermittent high pitch electronic tone that seems to be coming from the dash. Sometimes it comes on for a few seconds. Sometimes for several minutes. It never varies in pitch. It will occur even if the radio and fans are turned off. It will also occur if the engine is off and the key is just in the accessory position. Any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.
The truck has no CD player, alarm or remote start. So I can eliminate those as culprits. I'll try to do some testing with the seatbelts, but I know that it occurs when both seatbelts are engaged and when they are both disengaged. Thanks for the reply.
What about turning the key to on and if it whines then start pulling fuses one at a time till it quits. When it quits, either it's timed out or that's the circuit. If you put it back in and it restarts whining then it's definitely the right circuit, if not try again later and start with that one.
Thanks hcbph. After pulling almost every fuse in the box, the tone shuts off when I pull fuse #102 'Ignition Switch Feed'.
You're welcome. Now you know the circuit, it's a matter of checking the schematics and see what's actually on that circuit and go from there. Good luck and let us know what it turns out to be.
Power from key switch in start/run position goes to fuse 28 which powers fuel pump relay and PCM power relay. It also is RF power to antitheft module. Pull Fuse 28 with key in start/run position. If it still makes noise look to the antitheft module malf. With key just in the ignswitch power goes to cluster and to antitheft module. With the key in the accessory position power is routed to fuse F1 which puts power to the Audio Unit. Gps system uses audio unit thru can bus system to cluster. Audio unit for GPS is not the Radio circut as such. Remove fuse F1 with the key in accessory position, see if sound stops.
Can we resurrect this ancient thread? I can’t stand this high pitch tone. It’s not mechanical. It turns on inconsistently but usually stays on until the key is out and everything is shut off. Anyone else have experience with this?
