Howdy. In my truck I've got a Ford aftermarket 10-disc CD player that sits under the seat in the back. It worked up until about two weeks ago. I don't have one clue as to what might be the problem, but this is what it's like.. I will put a CD into the cartrige and put it back into the CD player thing. It will make humming noises for about 15 seconds and then I will hear it start to spin the disc. Now sometimes if I'm lucky, it will start to actually play the first maybe 20 seconds of the first song on the CD. Then it stops and gives me a message on the remote that reads "ER-4". By the way my CD player doesn't hook up to my radio, it's got its own little remote thing in the cubby under the steering wheel and to listen to it you have to be on 88.3FM. Anyways, if it does start to play, when I change to the next song it will give me "ER-4". If anybody has had one of these CD players and had the same problem, I would really appreciate it if you could say whatever you know about it, I can't live my life listening to the radio. Please help out! Thanks
Ford aftermarket? That doesn't sound like an original Ford unit. It sounds like it was added to the original stereo. You need the changer's owners manual to see what ER-4 stands for. Have you ever cleaned the changer? I would start with that, remove the changer and give it a good cleaning and then clean the laser with one of those special cleaning disks. If that doesn't work then try a new cartridge. If it still doesn't work, then it's time for a new changer
Good luck, hope that helps
It's got the Ford emblem on it. It's not original either, I'm guessing it was added on later. Thanks for your help. Where could I get one of the cleaning discs? Best buy? Thanks again
