Be mindful of the fuel tank differences between the long and short bed. I think the rear tanks are the same but on the long beds the front tank hold the most fuel, on the short bed it is the opposite. Just something to think about.
I have reg cab SB and like it. Has a shell and sometimes gets mistaken for a Bronco. I sometimes wish I had extended cab though.
A rear window slider is essential for the occasional 10' 2x4 or PVC pipe etc. 8' materials go in diagonal OK.
I can way overload my SB with firewood (weight) as it is.
And something to consider also--only the SWB/short bed 4x2 can have two tanks. The post 1988 or so 4x4 SWB trucks can only have the rear tank. The 18 gallons available sure can get scary when off road in the middle of nowhere!
