I love longbeds I can haul so much with the tail gate up only down thing is my 96f150 sclb 4x4 is everything you decided to turn around the country song give me forty acres plays in your head. But the ride is soo much better with my long wheelbase, the next truck for me will be a cclb.... Ha you guys think those are long I drive a f550 with a 19'6" flatbed haha
Long bed for me...I just like them. Although I wouldn't touch one when I was in high school. lol. Since then I've taken a liking to long beds and wouldn't go back. As already said tool box, fourwheeler, and closed tailgate are nice. I have had a tool box on EVERY truck I've owned...lol. And the long bed ride is better by far.
I also don't like the look of an ext or crew cab long bed 1/2 ton...3/4 and 1 tons are different. 5 lugs and that long just dosen't set well with me. Just my personal preference though. Even a 6 lug light 3/4 ton that C***Y and G*C had in the 90's didn't look right.
Guess it depends on your application. I have a 94' CC, which I would think a long old front end to cab with a short bed would just look silly. Besides, if you're going that big, you might as well have the extra oomph with those sleek long sidelines. I got it to pull a trailer and put gear in the back. For a family of 5, and possibly 6 one day, a long bed will fit all of our belongings with extra room inside the trailer for other crap.
I've had short beds, long beds, S.Cabs & 1 CCLB w/a 6.9.
Rather have a SB to just cruise and/or tow a trailer. Backing a trailer with a SB is just so much easier & more maneuverable.
Rather have a LB for a work truck for load capacity
Rather have a S.Cab for a combo truck/family ride.
Hated the CCLB 4x2 diesel. It would spin forever on wet grass, even on flat ground. Would get stuck @ the drop of a hat. It was VERY temporary though.
Just do what I did, buy both...I have a 93 F150 Standard Cab/ Short Bed that is my driver/grocery truck and a 78 F250 that is my work truck and hay hauler...
it all depends what your life style is iguess. i do have both, wish the short bed wasnt stepside though.. useless, ive always like the lb although out in the woods the sb are at times easier to maneuver.
Be mindful of the fuel tank differences between the long and short bed. I think the rear tanks are the same but on the long beds the front tank hold the most fuel, on the short bed it is the opposite. Just something to think about.
Oh, and try to find a topper or a hard bed cover for s short bed.....I have one of each that I might sell but for what I had to go through to find, and then get, them you won't get them for cheap.
