Intake Manifold Gasket

A mechanic told me that my 1969 F-100, 360 engine has a bad
gasket. The intake was an add-on so that a 4 barrel Harley carb
could be mounted. The mechanic wanted $480.00 to do this.
Is this something that I could do. I am just a "shadetree mechanic."
I have the new gasket, and I do have a torque wrench.
Just don't want to get in over my head.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If its cast iron its heavy, but get in the engine bay with it and it can be lifted off. You have to remove the valve covers, the rocker arms and push rods, and the distributor. Clean all gasket mounting areas really good and have them dry, on the two cork end pieces, befor you put them on, take a sharp punch and hammer, on the area where they go, make small dents all the way across, about 1/8 inch apart, apply the yellow weather strip adheive glue to the block area, press them down till they are set tight, apply a little silicone sealer to each end, to keep oil from leaking between them and the side gaskets, be carfull putting the intake back on, so as not to bump the end pieces out of line.

Wow! I didn't know that the rocker arms and pushrods and distributor had to be removed. This sounds like a "serious project." Maybe the $480.00 was a good
estimate for this big of a project. Thanks.

Im 17 and did this three times and found that you should not use the front and back cork gaskets. Use some stuff called the right stuff. Make sure you take pictures of linkages and where your dizzy is
