Ok here we go, I installed a rebuilt 390 in Jan. 03. It runs great but the intake leaks bad in front It is an edelbrock performer intake. What things can I do when I change the gasket to get it to seal. I really hate seeing my nice clean, freshly painted engine and compartment getiing all oily. Any ideas would be great. Thanks
You must remove the stud on the block before you install the E-bock manifold. I remove it on all the Fe motors that I do regardless of the intake, just personal preference. After that use plenty of acetone and a razor blade to make everything squeaky clean. Then use silicone for the front and back, and Fel-Pro intake to head gaskets. Set the manifold down squarely on the engine and do not slide it around. I use an engine hoist and put in the bolts a few turns before I set in completly on the engine. I line the distributor and intake before I tighten anything. Follow the torque sequence and don't over tighten it. Let the sealant cure as long as you can before you fire the motor. Double check the PVC system. Take your time this is a simple project but easy to screw up!
Remember to dab both sides of the head gasket where the end rail gaskets tie-in. When you apply the silicone, make a nice thick towering bead on front and back rails. You want the silicone to push out a little when the intake is applied.
