It was time to tackle the worst of it, the down-pipe. Now ATS no longer stocks the DP so I had to make my own. Luckily I had a 3" PSD DP laying around and I knew I could make it work.
After cutting several slits in the firewall and violently attacking them with a steel pipe I got the factory dp out and look at this joke...they really expected a 7.3L feeding hot exhaust gas through this flat *&^ dp?
So at this point I layed the dp together, marked out the best angle and cut away. The PSD dp was quite a bit larger so I cut relief cuts in it before pounding it around the stock turbo flange.
After some welding, grinding, and paint it came out like this:
I will let you know after installing this (which is super easy, it can be in and out in 5mins tops) the sound so unbelievable. A massive improvement over stock. And the power is NOTICEABLY different. Turbo spools faster, holds boost longer, dosent rattle or sound like a gasser anymore, and EGTS are 50-100 degrees lower. I will post a video soon of how the dp looks installed and the sound. This week I will finish my exhaust but the dp will work for now

Looks great!! I like seeing these turbo mods and differences in how people eliminate the grossly constrictive downpipe. I know of a guy who makes them still here in missoula, he has an old one from a 1994, anytime anyone asks about it, he bends a new 3" and custom fits it to every IDI.
Im probably going to do a single passenger side stack. 6 or 8 in and paint it black. I dont want it to come up to far over the cab and it will be mider cut. I think my truck will look pretty good with it. I dont do overkill. Anyways I picked up a Warn 9000lb winch for $300...pretty stoked about that
