key in ACC position chime?
Ok
On my 1996 Ranger the chime starts when I put the key into the ignition , then stops when I turn to start. But when I turn it to ACC, it will continue to chime.
I thought it might be the door jamb switch so I disconnected those, but it still does it. I also tried taking out the contact when you first stick your key in the ignition, it still chimes in ACC.
Also the dome light stays on all the time, (took out bulb). And If I take out fuse 25, the chime stops , as well as the speedometer.
Any clues? If you have an electrical schematic please share!
thanks

Welcome to FTE.
The dome light staying on may be an important clue, so try spritzing the door latch area where the dome light switch resides, with WD-40, open & close it several times while spraying & see if you can wake the switch up & see how the chime anomaly goes.
Keep us posted on your trouble shoot.

Now pawpaw, if I read a schematic right, the circuit closes when the switch is activated. And it's activated when the door is open. Now since I disconnected the switch that would leave the circuit open. There should be no buzzer.
Yes it would be nice just to disconnect the sound source.

I don't know where the danged buzzer/chime is located, but if its constantly on, it shouldn't be hard to find.

A forum search returns lots of reading on the accursed door chime...on my 93 I am looking for a black box with small round speaker up under the dash behind the ashtray...should be easy to unplug it according to other threads. After 95, I think, it was moved to a circuit board that resides somewhere up in/near the in-dash stereo. I go hunting for mine tomorrow...if nothing else, I'll stuff some foam up against the little speaker to mute it down.

What I tried next.
So what I tried next was to cut the yellow/black wire and grey/red wire right at the GEM module box. All it did was stop the chime when you first stick the key into the ignition. The Accessory chime is still there!
I would take out the buzzer speaker but I can't take out the vent shroud to get to the GEM module bolts!
I'll never get to listen to my radio in peace in ACC mode.

Went exploring under my dash today, looking for the chime on my 93 XLT Ranger. Pulled the ashtray, disconnected its wires, pulled the floor console up, and found the chime box right behind the ashtray. Disconnected the electrical connector and lost the annoying chime and the seatbelt light on the dash, but nothing else. So I'll leave it unplugged until inspection time, then plug it back in. I was able to open the chime box and found it is just two circuit boards, no speaker that I could get to just to mute it. Oh well, problem solved.
